Dominica: information about the island
Dominica is a small island nation in Central America, its population is about 80 thousand inhabitants. The island is largely covered by lush rainforests and there are also numerous waterfalls and rivers.
Its capital is Roseau , which is also the only significant urban center on the island, with about 15,000 inhabitants. The official language is English, but a Creole-French dialect is also widely spoken, while its currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar. A little curiosity: the island is called Dominica because it was discovered by Christopher Columbus on November 3, 1493, which was a Sunday.
There are two small airports on the island where flights arrive from other Caribbean cities : Canefield Airport located in Portsmouth, and Melville Hall Airport located in Roseau. Local airlines to Dominica depart mainly from Antigua, Barbados, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Puerto Rico. Upon arrival you must show your passport with at least six months of residual validity and a return or onward flight ticket.

Dominica: the most beautiful beaches
The most beautiful beaches on the island are located in Roseau, Berekua, Marigot, Portsmouth and Rosalie. Being a volcanic island, most of the beaches are pebbles and black sand .
Among the most frequent beaches we find Champagne Beach which is located in Roseau. A pebble beach with a beautiful crystalline sea where you can also admire the crystalline reef.
A beautiful beach is Mero Beach made of black volcanic sand. Around there are several bars and places to have lunch or refresh yourself with a cocktail. It is 30 minutes from the capital.
Another highly recommended beach is Batibou Beach. Stunning sea and palm trees all around the beach. It is one of the few beaches in Dominica with fine golden sand. Since there is no mass tourism in Dominica all the beaches are not very chaotic and perfect for relaxing and staying away from the chaos.
What to do and see on the island
Due to its lush vegetation, natural spas and tropical rainforests, it is nicknamed the island of nature and there are two large national parks on the island, here are some tips on what to do in Dominica:
Not to be missed is the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, consisting of a territory characterized by strong volcanism and covered by a thick tropical forest; the park was also recognized as a World Heritage Site in 1995. Also not to be missed is an excursion to the Boiling Lake, the second largest steam lake in the world with a water temperature of around 90 degrees.
Also worth a visit are the Trafalgar Falls: located 20 minutes drive from Roseau, and are also known as the twin falls. The tallest falls are about 85 meters and are known as “Papa Falls” while the lower one to the right is known as “Mama Falls”.
The island is also home to the highest mountain in the Caribbean, Morne Diablotin, which stands at 1,447 metres.
For those who love diving, you must go to the spectacular marine sites located off the coast of Soufrière Bay, where there is a coral reef.
Its capital Roseau is located on the east coast of the island and is a small center characterized by modern buildings and French colonial style mansions. Worth a visit is the Dominican Museum where there are many testimonies on the history of the slave trade.
